Summer Outing

We’re giving you two hours to get out of town, and by “we” I mean us Sierra Club folks, specifically, that Eagle View Group.  We’re gonna teach you how to explore and enjoy nature along the Hennipen Canal whether you like it or not.   And to make it extra enjoyable you will be doing this on a bike, and I don’t mean a noisy motorcycle.  I’m talking about real two wheeled bicycles.  You know, the kind of bikes healthy and hardy folks use for fun and transportation.

Now listen up, here’s the deal.  We meet at high noon at the park in Colona along the canal, Saturday July 18.  Bring your own grub for lunch before we leave and then be ready to ride for two hours.  You’ll need water too and if you know what’s good for you, you’ll be there on time or you might wake up wearing cement toe clips.

Humor aside, this will be a bicycle outing, however those who do not find joy in bicycling are welcome to attend our picnic lunch and if they so desire, they are encouraged to take a walk along the canal.  These people will not be on the official outing and will not need to sign our liability waiver.

Hennipen Canal Park in Colona, Illinois is at 6th Street and 5th Avenue.  Coming from Moline on Avenue of the Cities you will be on 1st Avenue in Colona.  Turn right (south) onto 6th Street and follow it to 5th Avenue and see the park on the right.  Sixth Street is AKA Hennipen Drive.  Bicyclists who plan to participate should register online or call Jerry at 563 332 5373 or cell 563 508 2513 PRONTO!
